Ingredients
Sub
- 1 footlong nine-grain bread (or wholegrain)
- 8 slices good-quality sliced turkey breast (deli counter if possible)
- Shredded iceberg lettuce
- 1 tomato, sliced
- ½ red onion, thinly sliced
- Mayonnaise
- Cracked black pepper
Method
- Toast. Brush bread with olive oil. Toast cut-side down for 2–3 minutes until golden.
- Layer meats. Lay turkey slices evenly across the bread.
- Salad. Pile on lettuce, tomato, red onion.
- Sauce. Light mayo, cracked black pepper. Optional: wholegrain mustard.
- Slice. Cut in half. Serve.
Tips
- Deli-counter turkey is worth the extra. Pre-packaged is waterlogged and slimy.
- Nine-grain or wholegrain bread holds together better than plain white sub rolls.
- Light mayo. Don’t drown the turkey — let it be the star.
