About Fakeaway

A recipe site for original copycat recipes: the homemade version of the takeaway flavours you already know. We write every recipe ourselves, test it in a normal home kitchen, and only publish what works with normal equipment.

Not affiliated, not endorsed

We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of the takeaway brands on this site. No brand deals. No paid placements. No affiliate links to their apps.

When a recipe says "KFC-style fried chicken" or "Nando's-style peri-peri" or "McDonald's-style burger sauce," that's a flavour description. Not a source claim. Not a knockoff confession. Just a flavour profile so you know what you're getting.

Every recipe, every photo, and every word on this site is our own original work. If something here tastes close to a takeaway you've had, we're aiming for that flavour. We don't have access to anyone's secret formula.

Why we keep the copy neutral

You won't see "the official KFC recipe" or "the real Nando's peri-peri sauce" anywhere on the site. That's deliberate:

  • Brands protect their recipes for good reason. We respect that.
  • Search engines and humans find "copycat chicken" perfectly well without us claiming it's "the" recipe.
  • It keeps us on the right side of trademark law while staying useful.

How recipes get built

Every recipe starts with one question: what makes this takeaway flavour distinctive? Then we work backwards from the flavour principles underneath.

The herb blend on fried chicken. The smoke-heat-acid balance on peri-peri. The sauce ratios on a burger. The double-coating on onion rings. The tang in a Big Mac-style sauce. We build from those principles, test, refine, test again.

No deep fryer needed for the KFC-style stuff. An oven or shallow fry works. No pizza oven needed for the pizzas. A screaming-hot home oven plus a pizza stone does the job.
